A lot of people judge Camp Nowhere before they have actually seen it, just because you know you can not get away with the things those kids do in real life. But please, watch the movie first and then judge it, because otherwise you’ll miss out on a really funny movie. Morris ‘Mud’ Himmel and his friends all have to go to a camp they hate. So, with the help of a grownup (who’s not exactly normal!) they create their own summer camp. But then the other kids at school find out about it and want to go too. But hey, the more the marrier. It all works out perfectly, for a while. Because what if the parents want a parents day? Camp Nowhere is a really funny movie with some real good quotes by the characters. My fave is: for that just flushed look. The actors all do really well in this movie but I think actor Jonathan Jackson was the best. As Mud he’s funny, sweet and he can make those hilarious faces (like when the cup-cake falls right in his hands…) If you want to see a movie that is funny, not so predictable (maybe the end), and filled with very good performances from both the grownups and the kids, I defennitly recommend this one.

I have been reading the reviews, most of which are obviously written by teenagers or preteens.
My husband, also 30something, tuned into this on cable the other night. and we both sat and watched the whole thing. It’s “Lord of the flies” set in modern day, but much more fun to watch.

Christopher Lloyd, best known as “Reverend Jim” on t.v. show Taxi, and “Doc Brown” in the Back to the Future movies is the only known star that shows up in most of the movie. He plays the authority figure throughout the film when the parents’ aren’t.

It’s a “let’s see how much we can get away with while the parents aren’t looking” movie. and I have to admit, it was pretty cool..Both my husband and i were thinking: That is cool..I wish I could’ve done that. It’s a fantasy for younger teens. Basically, some rich kids pool all their summer camp money together and create their own fantasy camp and their parents think that they are all at the camps they were originally supposed to go to for the summer: fat camp, computer camp, drama camp.. instead, it’s just ‘HAVE FUN ALL SUMMER camp..OR Camp Nowhere at some run down land that Lloyds’ character finds.
The teens all come together and help Lloyd from going to jail.
It’s a cute little film that certainly isn’t one of the most classic of the teen genre, but certainly is entertaining enough.
A lot of silliness goes on, and eventually chaos!!! the parents want parents day..of course, they have to get caught eventually, right?

John Wayne’s road to stardom needed some giddyup in the early 1930s; after a leading-man turn in The Big Trail, he quickly fell into B-movie obscurity. While waiting to vault to first-tier status in 1939’s Stagecoach, he honed his talent with a set of six B-Westerns at Warner Brothers, shot in 1932-33. The series of snappy little films (under an hour each) allowed Warners to recycle footage (and plots) from a string of silent Westerns made with Ken Maynard, with the young Mr. Wayne stepping into Maynard’s saddle. Haunted Gold adds a dose of haunted-house shenanigans to an awkward tale about a hidden cache of gold. The comic relief comes from character actor Blu Washington, who unfortunately has the kind of wide-eyed, scaredy-cat role that too many black actors of the era got stuck with. Wayne, 25 years old, plays the same naively heroic hero in each of the six films. He’s lean and handsome and not yet grown into his talent. But you can see how much the camera likes him–as his future director Howard Hawks might have put it–and how much that famous stride is already coming into step. –Robert Horton

Great poetry is naturally rhythmic and infused with image and symbol – qualities that enable them, like great religious texts, to trigger a deep emotional and spiritual response. In these powerful films, we endeavored to create an audio/visual balance that allows the spirit of each poem to shine through the screen while providing the viewer space to experience each poem as it speaks to him or her.

Each of our eight poems has been crafted into a short film with its own uniqu image set and soundtrack. The short films have then been carefully sequnced to hold the viewers full attention while always trying to keep him slightly off balance – a place where possibilities arise.

Mixing original footage with obscure gems from far and wide, you will find yourself on the front seat of the Cyclone in 1940’s Coney Island, scrambling for cover in present day Iraq or on the Space Shuttle looking back at earth. Maybe you’d prefer hanging out in a smoky Tango bar in 1922 Argentina, participating in a Union strike during the Great Depression, wandering the desert in Israel looking for meaning or dancing with a tribe of American Indians in 1895.

When I was a kid, John Agar’s glazed over radioactive eyes and the floating transparent brain of the film’s title really gave me the willies, I command ya. This is detached a astounding amusing movie that benefits from being short, with the monster introduced early on. Agar is pleasurable, contorting himself in harm exquisite convincingly as the monster enters and leaves his body, and he’s got the megalomanical laugh down pat. The special effects are passe, especially when the alien monster is forced to seize his accurate shape and reveals himself to be a rubber blob bouncing around on a wire, but heck, you were expecting Industrial Light and Magic, maybe? Everything is vulgar budget: shrimp cast, stock footage, a nuclear research lab with no equipment, and a place that consists of the desert and someone’s suburban home. And what other film mentions the “fissure of Rolando”? The extras on the DVD are virtually non-existent, consisting only of chapter search and the theatrical trailer. Biographical info of the performers, especially the supporting cast, would have been welcome. If you like sci fi B-movies, this certainly fits the bill perfectly. The transfer to DVD is kindly.

Gor and Val are alien brains that arrive to earth. Gor wants to enslave the human bustle and takes over John Agar’s body. Val wants to steal Gor and return him to planet Arous from which he escaped. Val inhabits a dog to be finish to Gor. Gor blows up an atomic test residence, crisps a couple of people, and destroys a couple of airplanes (the pieces of which hang from their wires afterwards) before his comeuppance. And, of course, Gor has to lust after the female lead. The acting is generally glorious and the film exhibits a level of professionalism lacking in a lot of these “classics”.

This is sizable B movie fare. And as an extra bonus, the ravine and cave in which Gor and Val are discovered was earlier occupied by that ultimate of alien pests, Ro-man: the alien in a gorilla suit and diver’s helmet which appears in Robot Monster, another classic of 1950s sci-fi.

The DVD is of pleasurable quality. Details are visible in the shadows and the scenes have reliable tone throughout. The record is though-provoking. A very edifying transfer to DVD.
